Govt to leave no stone unturned for a free and fair November 19 CA poll

KATHMANDU: Interim Election Council (IEC) Chairman Khil Raj Regmi has said that the government would make no compromise on holding the forthcoming Constituent Assembly election in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

Inaugurating the Seventh Annual General Meeting of the Nepal Health Service Cooperatives Limited and the Manmohan Memorial Medical College and Teaching Hospital operated by it at a function here on Saturday, Chairman Regmi stated that the government has moved forward fully prepared for conducting the elections in a peaceful environment.

“Priority has been given to all the legal and managerial works as a peaceful environment is needed for ensuring the fairness and impartiality of the election; the government shall adopt appropriate measures with zero tolerance for maintaining peace and security of the polls,” he said.

He made it clear that there was no any other priority for the government except than making the CA election successful for writing a constitution as the country would see social, economic and cultural development only after the writing of the constitution.

With the government having completed most of the basic works related to the election at present, the next job is that of the political parties filing nominations, carrying out election campaign and ensuring that voting takes place in a peaceful environment on the designated date, and since all the political parties, leaders, cadres and voters have an important role to play in that regard, I specially urge to fulfill a cooperative role for that, Chairman Regmi said.
