Party president should be resigned: NSU leader Basnet

Kathmandu, November 13. Nepal Students Union (NSU) student leaders have demanded that Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala resign from the chair of party president after the seventh postponement 11th General Convention.

Organising a press meet at the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Thursday, some student leaders have demanded Koirala’s resignation from the position of party chief as the party leadership has postponed the convention by showing the upcoming 18th SAARC summit.

Candidate of the presidency and president of Shanker Dev Campus Shubharam Basnet accused the Prime Minister Koirala of putting the Convention off after leaders loyal to him were about to lose the elections.

Basnet said-“He has lost a moral right to lead the party, it is very undemocratic to postpone the convention after finding that his loyalists will lose.”

He The 18th SAARC Summit was just a pretext for the postponement. “This is an offence against internal democracy of the organization, we do not accept it” basnet added.

He said some student leaders had already started protests against party leaders. “But, we have postponed it for now considering requests from some senior party leaders,” he added.

Likewise, former NSU Vice-President Rishikesh Jung Shah condemned the party decision. Shah demanded that the party withdraw the postponement decision and hold the convention on time.

NSU leaders Nainsingh Mahar, Tirtha Gautam, Rabindra Shah, Pushpa Kumar Shahi, Keshar Shami and Durendra Kumar Rai among others had spoken at the function.

A meeting of the NC office bearers had postponed the 11th General Convention of NC’s student wing, which was scheduled to begin on November 16. It is the seventh time that the party postponed NSU gala.
