24 teachers resign en masse fearing CIAA action

Khotang, Dec 17: In a fear of the Commission for the Abuse of Authority (CIAA) move, a total of 24 teachers in Khotang have resigned en masse.

Eighteen primary teachers, five lower-secondary and a technical teacher resigned after the CIAA started investigations into the status of their teaching licenses, according to District Education Officer Ganesh Prasad Bhattarai.

Most of teachers deciding to quit their profession were appointed on relief quota and they are either with fake teaching licenses or without teaching license, it is learnt.

Many teachers possessing fake license are still believed to be in the teaching service in the district and a broader study to that end is awaited.

The CIAA has sought original academic certificates and teaching license of all permanent, temporary, relief and contract-based teachers in the district and the District Education Office Khotang had the deadline till mid-December to collect all the academic and professional details of around 22,000 teachers in the district.
