Prime Minister Koirala, IFRC president Konoe meet



Kathmandu, June 24: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has appreciated the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for its role in rescue and relief support provided in the earthquake affected districts in the country.

During his meeting with IFRC President Mr Tadateru Konoe at his official residence in Baluwatar, today, PM Koirala appreciated the Red Cross Society’s role in the rescue and relief activities carried out after the April 25 earthquake. He also urged the IFRC’s support on the reconstruction and rehabilitation programmes.

The Red Cross had provided support from its position in the post-quake scenario and has focused its activities for the reconstruction of the damaged structures and reinstatement of displaced families, said Nepal Red Cross Society president Sanjeev Thapa on the occasion.

Prime Minister Koirala said the support from within the country and outside has been deposited in the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund for the reconstruction of the ravaged structures and the government would spend this fund in a transparent manner. There would be no irregularities.

IFRC president Konoe, who is also Chairman of Japan Red Cross Society, lauded the NRCS’ activities in the quake affected districts for the search, rescue and relief distribution programme and assured of further support for reconstruction.

The IFRC president is scheduled to visit the quake affected districts today itself. RSS
