Proposal for changing journalists’ basic educational standard

Chitwan, May 2: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) today proposed for amending its statute for barring individuals with only School Leaving Certificate (SLC) qualification from becoming a journalist.

The amendment proposal will be tabled at the Statute Assembly taking place at Ratnanagar of Chitwan from Tuesday, FNJ said. The amendment proposal which was sent to the FNJ council members a month ago for perusal and suggestions calls for an amendment to allow only individuals with at least higher secondary level education or any other education equal to it to qualify as a journalist.

The current provision stipulates SLC as the basic educational standard to become a journalist. The proposal was introduced for Fourth Amendment of FNJ Statute 2060, said FNJ President Dr Mahendra Bista. RSS
