Parliament’s monsoon session begins today



Kathmandu, May 3: The Monsoon Session of the Legislature-Parliament has begun today. Speaker Onsari Gharti welcomed the lawmakers and the meeting observed a minute’s silence in memory of martyrs who lost their life in the struggle for democracy and republicanism.

The meeting began in the stipulated time 11:00 am. Speaker Gharti read out the letter received from the Office of the President in this regard and another letter from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers regarding the latest Cabinet expansion.

Similarly, the meeting did not take up further business as the Legislature-Parliament Regulation was yet to get final shape.

This session is expected to formulate laws essential to implement the constitution. Along with this, 40 additional bills were registered in the parliament. The session will hold pre-budget discussions and policy and programmes of the government for the new fiscal year.

The Finance Minister will present the budget on May 28. It is scheduled that issues related to post- quake reconstruction projects would be discussed on May 4 and 5.

Likewise, pre budget discussion would be held on May 6 and 7. The parliament secretary has informed that the parties are agreed to present the government policy and programme on May 8.

Today’s parliament meeting concluded in five minutes. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 11 am. RSS
