Student unions to tighten screw on schools



Kathmandu, May 3: The student unions today vowed to strictly monitor the schools charging random fees to the students from Wednesday onward.

The meeting held at Nepal Student Union (NSU) Central Office, Dillibazaar noted that even though repeated appeals were sent to the schools to charge less fees it was being discarded.

NSU Spokesperson, UP Lamichhane, accused the private schools of charging random fees and of harbouring a mindset that they are above the law and regulations. He said 13 monitoring committees would be formed to carry out the inspections.

The meeting also urged the government to increase the budget for development of the education sector in the entire country. The student unions are set to draw the attention of the Prime Minister and Finance Minister to the matter.

The student unions will also simultaneously press for implementation of the 10-point understanding between the student unions and government reached last year.

The meeting was attended by NSU, All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), All Nepal National Independent Students Union – Revolutionary (ANNISU – R), ANNFSU – 5th , ANNFSU – 6th among leaders from nine different student unions. RSS
