Vijay Jolly

KATHMANDU, April 10: Leader of Bharatiya Janta Party and expert of Nepal-India relation Vijay Jolly has suggested that the local level election should be held in consensus among all the political parties.

Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Monday, he said, “Local level election is very important in order to strengthen democracy and institutionalize federal republic system in Nepal. It will be better if election is held in consensus among all the political parties.”

Jolly, who came to Nepal to attend the 19th Anniversary Celebration function of the Reporters’ Club Nepal, stated that he had an opportunity to meet the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ during his visit, and added, “PM Dahal has told me that he is preparing to register a new constitution amendment bill that would be acceptable to all the political parties including main opposition CPN-UML and agitating Madhes-based parties. I wish him best of luck in this regard.”

Stating that India has always wanted to see stable and prosperous Nepal, he added, “Nepal-India bilateral relation has been very positive and will move forward in mutual understanding and trust in the coming days.”

Jolly also assured that Indian government would always extend support to Nepal regarding development.

He further stated that Nepal had a great help from India in ending power cuts problems. He added, “about 340 mega watt electricity has been imported while 100 mega watt has been managed by the Nepal Electricity Authority internally. Load shedding has ended now which is a good news to the Nepal-based entrepreneurs. End of load shedding has also eased the daily lives of people here.”

Stating that development works in Nepal would accelerate after the completion of local level election, he added, “India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always been thoughtful concerning development in Nepal. Modi, while on visit to Nepal two years ago, had made public commitment to help Nepal develop in every sector. And, he has taken initiatives in several of the development projects, which is a good thing.”

In another note, Jolly said that India would never interfere in the Nepalese internal affairs.

Ambassador Puri committed to Nepal’s development

Leader Jolly also said that he visited Ambassador of India to Nepal Manjiv Singh Puri in the morning and added, “Ambassador Puri has expressed his commitment to work for development of Nepal.”

Jolly opined that Nepal needed political stability to bring all the Nepalese dream into reality and further added, “India couldn’t wait to see Nepal taking strides into the path of development.”

“I wish Nepal could become a pride of Himalayas, India and Asia,” he added.

He continued, “I have felt blessed to have the opportunity to visit holy Nepal. Nepal-India bilateral tie is age old. We have relation of roti and beti, now it should be moved forward by establishing economic partnership for economic prosperity of both countries.”

“The 21st century is the era of Asia. Nepal should take benefits from its neighbors India and China.”
