Congress ready for dialogues if PM steps down: Koirala

Chitra Raj Bhandari, KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has said that the opposition parties including his were ready to hold talks on all outstanding issues, if the PM steps down to pave way for it.

Speaking to a group of deusi-bhailo journalist led by Reporters Club Nepal at his residence, President Koirala said that NC was ready to discuss  all alternatives for resolving political stalemate after PM Baburam Bhattarai steps down.
On the occasion, he opined that Bhattarai had increased distrust between political parties by unilaterally dissolving the Constituent Assembly and announcing the CA elections. He said that with a such a track record of the PM, it was impossible to hold talks with the Maoist and their government.

Referring to the ongoing tussle between ruling and opposition parties over tabling full budget ordinance, Koirala said that his party was in favour of bringing a full fledged budget but said that the party would not support if the government rolls out the ordinance without their consent.

He accused the UCPN Maoist of devising new proposals for extending its stay in the government and ruled out the possibility of holding talks with it, unless the government steps down.

Speaking on the occasion, Club’s president Rishi Dhamala said that the deusi-bhailo program would be imperative in forging political consensus.
