Election ambiance hits cold Karnali



Karnali, election fever, parliamentary and province assembly election

DOLPA, Nov 13: As parliamentary and province assembly elections are only two weeks away, election fever has gripped the whole country. Election ambiance has also gripped the districts in Karnali region with political parties, election officials and security bodies now busy preparing for the elections slated on November 26. The second phase polls are being carried out in 45 districts on December 7.

Various political party leaders and candidates have engaged themselves in villages to win the hearts and minds of voters expediting election-related publicity campaigns each day even in remote areas where there is no access of road connectivity.

Likewise, locals have been looking forward to fulfilling the popular agendas in the districts. The candidates have organized election rallies, corner meet and door-to-door campaign, however cold and snowfall have affected the movements of people.

A local of Tripura Sundari Municipality-10 Lokesh Khatri shares that the upper part of Dolpa, Humla, Mugu, Jumla have witnessed snowfall since Mid-October. But locals are excited for electing their representatives using their franchise. The candidates of various political parties have reached Dho, Tinje, Bhijer, Chharka of upper Dolpa by neglecting the heart-chilling cold these days.

A local of Kaike Rural Municipality of Dolpa Om Magar says, “Increasing cold may affect the scheduled election.”

Another local of Tripura Sundari Municipality-1 Durga Prasad Devkota said that the major political parties including Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist) failed to bring a concrete plan for the holistic development of the regions in their election manifesto however, candidates of these parties are all geared up for the elections.

Dhan Bahadur Budha is contesting the polls as a common candidate from the left alliance to the House of Representatives while NC candidate Angad Budha is also contesting the polls in the same constituency.

Similarly, Nanda Singh Budha is contesting the provincial election (A) from the alliance and NC candidate Begam Singh Thakuri is in the race in the same election.

Left alliance candidate Bir Bahadur Shahi and NC candidate Suresh Shahi are in the race in Province (B).
