Election would not be put off: UCPN (Maoist) leader Dr Bhattarai

BANEPA: Unified CPN (Maoist) leader and former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that it was not possible to forge consensus with the poll opposing parties to the effect of postponing the date for the Constituent Assembly (CA) election.

Speaking at an interaction on ‘ Federalism, Identity, and Capability’ organized by the UCPN (Maoist) in Banepa, former Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai said the parties could be flexible but it was not possible to postpone the date of the CA election scheduled for November 19.

To talk of seeking the alternative to election would mean pushiong the nation towards uncertainty, said Bhattarai. He added that it was to dishonor the martyrs and families of the people disappeared during the insurgency.

He claimed that the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) were against the federalism, saying that federalism without identity has no meaning at all. It was not possible to imagine of a unitary governance system as there was no majority of any ethnic group in the country, said Dr. Bhattarai.
