European Union welcomes local polls in two phases

KATHMANDU, April 28: The European Union (EU) has welcomed the local level election to be held in two phases, one in May 14 another in June 14 in Nepal.
Calling on Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun at his office on Thursday, EU Ambassador to Nepal, Rensje Teerink also extended best wishes for the success of the election going to take place in Nepal nearly in two decades.
During the meeting, VP Pun stated Nepal is engrossed in the election to institutionalize the rights achieved by the public after a long struggle.
VP Pun also expressed his confidence that the upcoming election would empower the people as the country would head in the pathway of prosperity following the formation of three levels of government after constitution stipulated local level election and elections at province and centre level are held.
On the occasion, EU envoy Teenrik lauded the democratization, inclusiveness and decentralization embraced by Nepal.
Meanwhile, Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Yaron Mayer paid a courtesy call on VP Pun on Thursday.
During the meeting, VP Pun stressed on strengthening Nepal-Israel at people-to-people level and expressed willingness to learn from the agricultural stride made by Israel.
Responding to it, envoy Mayer termed Nepal as the best destination for travel and trek and pledged to help attract as many as Israeli tourists to Nepal. RSS
