Finance Ministers sees need of expanding capital market



Kathmandu, Jan 13: Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has underlined the need of expanding the scope of capital market in the country.

Addressing a programme organised Wednesday on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Ltd, the Finance Minister said, “Country’s capital market is basically based on banks and financial institutions and is the Kathmandu-based and so its network must be expanded.”
Pointing out the need of making the people of local level aware of capital market, he called for developing the capital market as a backbone for nation economy. He urged NEPSE to focus on rendering quality service to its clients.
President of Security Board of Nepal Dr Rewat Bahadur Karki said of late the capital market was gathering pace and will be entering an automated system very soon. There should be maximum utilisation of information and technology to systematize capital market with the maintenance of transparency, Karki said.
NEPSE Chair Ramji Regmi stressed that the organisation itself be dedicated to making people aware of capital market, promoting it and to other various institutional social causes.
NEPSE Chief Executive Officer Sitaram Thapaliya shared about a plan of expanding the capital market across the country within the next two years with diversification of services.
The winners of a race organised by the NEPSE as the parts of the celebrations of its 23rd anniversary were honoured with cash prizes on the occasion. RSS
