Freed kamaiyas seeking employment with candidates

KANCHANPUR, Nov 16: Sitaram Chaudhary of the freed Kamaiya Camp at Belauri Municipality-5, Kanchanpur has been thinking to cast vote only to the candidate, who provides him with land and funds for vegetable farming.

Chaudhary involved in vegetable farming on five katthas of land provided by the government during the freed Kamaiya rehabilitation scheme said that he would expand the vegetable farming if he gets grant amount for the same. “No candidate has yet reached our camp. I want to ask for grant and land on rent from the candidates,” he said.

Most of the families of freed Kamaiya of the camp have been making Rs 70,000 to Rs 200,000 income annually from vegetable farming. Freed kamaiyas, however, have been able to send their children school by selling vegetables producing in a small amount of land, but the freed kamaiyas are jobless.

Motikala Chudhary said that she would cast vote to the candidate who assured them of creating employment opportunities for them.

Similarly, Lal Bahadur Chaudhary, said that it is sure that the candidate implementing the commitment of making arrangement of grant and government job to youths, among others would be in their choice. He said that they held discussion in their settlement and decided to caste vote only to a capable candidate.

There are 600 freed Kamaiya households in the settlement.
