GORKHA, June 25: A youth from Bunkot Lakhan rular municipality-8 in Gorkha district took to social networking site-Facebook-and raised fund amounting to Rs 300,000 to help reconstruct the quake-damaged school in the district.

Although two years have elapsed since the Gorkha Earthquake with the epicenter at Barpark in Gorkha hit the country, not many schools have been rebuilt in the worst-hit districts following the disaster, including Gorkha itself.

Lyricist Prakash Babu Thapa, who also chairs Nepal Youth Foundation, took the lead to raise the fund and recently handed to Om Prakash Shrestha, principal of Ramche Primary School in Gorkha amid a program.

Thapa, the ex-student of the school, wanted to give back to the school he studied and thus launched fundraising campaign online.

“The reconstruction of the school was stagnant in lack of fund,” shared Thapa, adding that renowned singer Aananda Karki too has helped in cash and in-kind for this cause.

As the fund has been received, the four-room building for the school is under construction, said ward Chair Kashinath Amgain. The school has 97 students. RSS
