KATHMANDU, July 17: The Cottage and Small Industries Development Board has established gemstones processing goods development centers in three districts in the last nine to ten years.

The centers meant for cutting, polishing and drilling of gemstones have been established in Surkhet (2065 BS) and Dhading and Doti (last year).

Prior to establishing such centers, the Board identified districts relatively storing a high quantity of gemstones. Of 800 types of gemstones available in the world, eight types– Kainite, tourmaline, quartz, aquamarine, garnet, danburite and hambergite– are found in Nepal.

According to Board deputy-executive director Binod Dev Pant, the board is providing three-month training on gemstone cutting, polishing and drilling for youths every year.

As stated by Spokesperson for the Department of Mines and Geology, Krishna Dev Jha, Nepal’s mountainous regions has a good storage of gemstones relatively than other areas.

Surkeht, Dailkeh, Kalikot, Lamjung, Gorkha, Dhading, Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Okhaldhunga are identified as potential natural storehouse of gemstones. RSS
