GSM Mobile World Congress fruitful: Minister Karki

KATHMANDU, March 13: Minister for Information and Communications, Surendra Kumar Karki, has returned home on Monday evening after attending the GSM Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain.

Talking to media persons at Tribhuvan International Airport after his arrival, Minister Karki said his participation in the Congress was very fruitful and beneficial to Nepal. “The Congress remained fruitful to link Nepal’s development process with ICT,” he added.

He also shared that he held talks with Director of International Telecommunications Satellite Organization in the US about development of Nepal’s information technology.

During the talks, the organization’s director has pledged for offering training on satellite to Nepal’s technicians for free, Minister Karki added.

The Ministerial Congress held from February 27 to March 1 had important discussions on latest technologies and communications for the bilateral and multilateral interests.

The discussion was also held with the representatives of world renowned IT companies on Nepal’s information and technology and investment in this sector.

Following the Congress, Minister Karki left for Cuba at the invitation of Cuban government and the communist party there.

In Havana, he held high level meeting with his counterpart and the communist leaders.

Minister Karki praised the unprecedented progress made in education and health sectors of Cuba and added that talks were held to send Nepali students there for studies.

The Congress was also attended by the Ministry Secretary, Mahendra Man Gurung and technologies from Nepal Telecom. RSS
