The final result of the first phase local election will be out within a week: CEC Yadav
KATHMANDU, May 17: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has said that the final result of the first phase local level election will be published within a week.
Speaking during an interaction at the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Wednesday, he said, “Vote counting is in progress. Ballot papers are large which is causing a little delay in vote counting. But we are adding more number of rooms and officers to speed up the counting process.”
“Vote counting of four metropolises has been real slow. We are adding more rooms and election officers which should help accelerate the process,” he added.
He, however, clarified that the vote counting process was not too sluggish. “We have completed the counting in 25 districts.”
“In 2054 election, it had taken about six days for the final result to get published. In this local election, the ballot papers are comparatively larger and the number of voters is also huge.”
“It will take some time, but not longer than a week,” he said.
Yadav added that the Election Commission (EC) has already instructed to gear up the counting process. He said, “There are legal difficulties. The EC cannot interfere on the rights of the election officers. But we are ready to supply more manpower if needed.”
Yadav furthered that electronic display machines will also be installed to publish the results.
Yadav further said that the participation of people in the local election was exciting and added that the first phase local poll was a success. He said, “Participation of voters in the first phase polls is 75 percent, which is remarkable. Now, the countdown for the second phase polls has begun. The EC has gained experience from the first polls, now we will make our preparation for the second phase polls based on this experience.”
