Three Chinese nationals held in possession of illegal currencies worth over Rs 42 million



KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Police here arrested three Chinese nationals in possession of the huge stash of illegal foreign currencies amounting to more than Rs 42 million.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division, Teku, seized Rs 42.6 million currencies from two women and a man at Nagdhunga this morning.
Preliminary investigations showed that the three were trying to smuggle currencies of different countries to China via Rasuwa check point boarding a tourist jeep bearing number plate Ba 1 Ja 1232, according to SSP Sarbendra Khanal.
Police have also arrested the Nepali jeep driver along with the Chinese nationals who were carrying around 260,000 USD, 118,000 Euro and some amounts of Swiss Franc, Australian Dollars and Japanese Yen, shared SSP Khanal.
He added, “We were keeping our eyes on for the Chinese nationals involved in the illegal trade of foreign currencies from Thamel after a tip-off. We arrested them at around 2 am today.” RSS
