International conference on rural development on March 23-25

KATHMANDU, Jan 9: An international conference is scheduled to be organized here from March 23 to 25 to solicit suggestions from the experts after discussing with them on the multi-faceted aspects of rural development.

The conference is being hosted by the Tribhuvan University (TU)’s Central Department of Rural Development.

The objective of the conference is that the suggestions coming from the discussions among the politicians, policy-makers, researchers and other stakeholders both from within the country and outside would help in the formulation of future government policies and plans, the organizers shared at a press conference in the capital on Tuesday.

Experts from 10 countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the United States of America, Canada and Japan among others besides Nepal will attend the conference. The conference will hold discussions on tourism, agriculture, environment, food security, good governance, sustainable development, natural resource management, federalism among an array of topics.

As many as 70 international experts from various sectors as well as politicians, high-ranking officials and experts from Nepal will participate in the conference, Head of the Department, Prof Dr Pushpa Kamal Subedi said.

The Central Department of Rural Development under TU was set up 17 years back and since then it has been offering courses on rural development in colleges across the country and producing the human resources in the related field. The Department is also starting Ph D program from this year.
