Kenya edges Nepal by five wickets

KATHMANDU, March 11: Nepal lost its first match to Kenya by five wickets in ICC World Cricket League Championship at TU cricket ground on Saturday.

Nepal set a target of 112 for eight before rain halted the game in 36 overs. Kenya was given a revised target of 104 runs from 29 overs under the D/L method. But following another rain interruption in the 22nd over, the match was reduced to 26 overs with revised target of 96 runs.

Kenya achieved the target in 25th over with 11 balls remaining.

RR Patel scored 34 runs (not out) off 52 balls, CO Obuya hit 24 runs off 32 balls with 3 fours and Gurdeep Singh hit 12 runs (not out) off 19 balls.

Earlier, batting first Gyanendra Malla scored 27 runs and Shakti Gauchan and Sompal Kami added 30-run partnership before the rain hit the game in 36th over. Dipendra Singh Airee scored 19, Gauchan scored 18 and Sompal hit 15 runs for Nepali side.

Despite the loss, Nepal still has a slimmer chance to earn the fourth spot in the league. Nepal will take on Kenya in the second match ICC World Cricket League Championship on Monday.
