Lokaantar.com’ – the newest news online



Kathmandu, May 06: The then chairman of the Interim Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi today launched a new news online, the lokantar.com, here today, coinciding with the First National Journalism Day.

The online will disseminate news both in Nepali and English. With this, the number of online services registered with the Press Council Nepal has reached 300.

National poet Madhav Prasad Ghimire’s interview and Dr Jaya Raj Acharya’s feature adorn the online’s first issue.

Senior journalist Dhruba Hari Adhikary is the Editorial Director of the online while Bimal Gautam is the Editor-in-Chief.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Regmi said dissemination of credible news is the need of the hour while paying attention to national interest, sensitivities and security.

He also underlined the need of carrying news from the perspective of promoting good governance and corruption control.

Chief Commissioner of the National Information Commission (NIC) Krishnahari Baskota said the country was becoming more conscious regarding the right to information with the commission’s efforts.

Former Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudyal urged the media to investigate into the motive of the foreign investment in the media and the judiciary. He also called on the media to contribute towards raising the sagging social morality.

Press Council Nepal chairman Borna Bahadur Karki called on the Lokaantar to play the role of a strong watchdog in the litany of online services in the country towards making journalism respectable and responsible.

Diplomat Dr Lokraj Baral stressed that the media should write so as to making the nation stronger.

Gautam pledged that the Lokaantar online would strive for practicing healthy journalism on the basis of competitiveness, competency and credibility. RSS
