‘Poverty Alleviation Fund under PM’s control’- not helping national progress

KATHMANDU, Feb 2: Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Hridaya Ram Thani today said that the poverty alleviation fund must not be under the control of Prime Minister.

During a face to face interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal presided by the Club’s President and senior journalist Rishi Dhamala, today at Bhirkutimandap, he urged the fund be brought to Poverty Alleviation Ministry so that he could run programs that would help in building poverty free Nepal.

He said, “He said, “There are about 49 projects related of poverty alleviation program under 14 ministries. The fund must be transferred to our ministry making it a focal point to undertake those projects implementation.”

The Finance committee under the legislative-parliament has already given the clear instruction that the fund be transferred to the Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Ministry. But the fund is still stalled at the Prime Minister’s office.

He added, “Poverty Alleviation Ministry has been of no use without fund. If it is brought to our ministry, I will form an entire system within one and half month, and then mobilize the experts to further carry out necessary tasks to eliminate poverty from Nepal by 2030 AD.”

He fumed that without the fund the Poverty Alleviation Ministry has been of no use. He furthered if the proposal to transfer the fund is yet hanged, he would prefer to handle Cooperative Ministry so that he would manage cooperative organizations.

He also stated that the cooperative organizations across Nepal have been very helpful to people, and especially of villages without access to banks and finances.

He further added that the bill related to cooperative organization were already tabled in the parliament and would be passed very soon.
