Minister Yadav insisted the need to expedite the constitution amendment



Kathmandu, Sept 6: Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Sita Devi Yadav has insisted the need to expedite the constitution amendment process so as to ensure smooth implementation of the new statute.

Speaking at the face-to-face programme of the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Tuesday, Minister Yadav noted the urgency of amending the constitution to address the issues of provincial boundaries, proportional inclusiveness and citizenship and thereby taking the Madhesi Morcha into confidence.

Minister Yadav also underscored the importance of main opposition UML’s cooperation in the constitution amendment process and informed that her party and leadership are also toiling hard to bring UML on board.

CPN-UML leader Lal Babu Pandit underlined that the constitution amendment process should be taken ahead as per the constitutional arrangement if required during the course of its implementation. He, however, suggested the parties not to adopt unconstitutional way to amend the statute.

CPN-MC leader Mani Thapa expressed his belief that the constitution amendment process would be made with the cooperation of the main opposition party.

Madhesi Morcha leader and Terai-Madhes Sadbhavana Party Chairperson Mahendra Raya Yadav also expressed his hope to get support from UML in amending the constitution.

Demanding the amendment to 83 clauses of the constitution at the earliest, the Madhesi Morcha suggested the government to hold federal level elections before the provincial and local tiers.
