Nepal Academy in a bid to globalise Nepali literature
Kathmandu, Dec 26: Nepal Academy established for the promotion of Nepali language, literature, culture and arts, philosophy and social sciences of Nepal, is currently busy in globalizing the Nepali literature. The national institution established in 1957 has begun researches for the development of various languages, literature and culture.
In its bid to globalise the Nepali literature and art, it is effortful to establish close ties and work in collaboration with other literary and art organisations in India, China and South Asian countries.
Last September, the Academy published a collection of anthology by diasporic writers in collaboration with the Non Resident Nepalis’ Association, Academy Chancellor Ganga Prasad Upreti.
Besides, the Academy regularly publishes research works done by its 11 subordinate bodies in a form of books every year, according to Academy Member Secretary Prof Dr Jibendra Dev Giri.
The Academy has so far published over two dozen books in Nepali, English, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Nepal Bhasha, Awadhi, Tamang, Limbu, Dhimal, Magar, Urdu, Chepang, Tharu, Danuwar, Rai, Lepcha and Sunuwar. Research is being carried out in Jirel, Kaike, Surel, Majhi and Magahi languages. There are 123 languages and ethnic communities in existence in the country.
The Academy is organising national poetry festival and literary seminar in coming February, 2016 on the occasion of its anniversary. Similarly, it has planned for holding the Mother Language Poetry Festival and Seminar on upcoming February 21 and 22 next year on the occasion of International Mother Language Day that is observed across the world on February 21.
