Nepal honors Dr Noburo Iwamura posthumously



KATHMANDU: The ‘Dr Narayan Govind Amatya Memorial Prize’ founded this year by the Nepal Cancer Relief Society has been presented posthumously to senior Japanese doctor Dr Noburu Iwamura.

Dr Iwamura founded the Dr Iwamura Hospital and Research Centre at Sallaghari of Bhaktapur and also made significant contribution to the treatment of tuberculosis in the remote areas of Bhaktapur and Palpa.

During his almost two decades stay in Nepal, Dr Iwamura had provided free health service to a large number of Nepalis at their doorsteps.

Dr Iwamura died of cancer few years ago in Japan.

The prize was announced on the occasion of the ninth general convention of the Society here on Tuesday. The prize, also carrying a purse of Rs. 15,000 will be sent to his next of kin in Japan, according to the Society Chair Devendra Bahadur Pradhan.
