Nepal’s poll govt to appoint office-bearers in EC today



KATHMANDU:  The four-party high-level political mechanism has recommended two names for their appointment in the Election Commission (EC).

The committee led by Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda named journalist Ila Sharma and former joint secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ram Bhakta P B Thakur, a pick of Madhes-based parties. Sharma was named under the woman quota.

Earlier, the major parties have already agreed to appoint former acting chief election commissioner Nil Kantha Upreti, a technology knowhow person, as the chief election commissioner and former election commissioners Ayodhi Prasad Yadav and Dolakh Bahadur Gurung in the same post.

After the political mechanism’s recommendations, the Constitutional Council led by Prime Minister would appoint in the EC.
The Constitutional Council is expected to appoint them today itself.

Similarly, the interim election government is expected to announce the fresh date for election this evening.
