Nepal’s Prez asks CC to rethink reappointment of former election commissioners

KATHMANDU: Despite political parties’ approval and constitutional council’s recommendation to President Dr Ram Baran Yadav to make appointment in the Election Council, the President has asked the CC to clarify whether or not the appointment was up to the mark from constitutional view point.

The President’s remark comes after the government and political parties are mulling over for the reappointments of Nilkantha Upreti, Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav and Dolakh Bahadur Gurung in the EC.

The President has written to the Council asking it for a response on whether their reappointment was possible as per Article 128 (3) and (7) of the Interim Constitution of Nepal, 2007, President’s press advisor Rajendra Dahal said.

The Council on Thursday had recommended Upreti as the Chief Election Commissioner while Yadav and Gurung as the Commissioners.

Similarly, Ila Sharma and Ram Bhakta PB Thakur were also recommended to the post of Commissioners of the Election Commission.
