Neurosurgeon Dr Devkota passes away

KATHMANDU, June 18: Senior neurosurgeon Prof Dr Upendra Devkota passed away in course of treatment at the Bansbari-based Neuro Hospital on Monday late afternoon.

According to a statement issued by the Hospital, Dr Devkota, who was undergoing treatment of gall bladder cancer, breathed his last at 5:35 pm.

Dr Devkota was the founder of the National Institute of Neurological and Allied Sciences or Neuro Hospital. Devkota had returned Nepal to spend the rest of his life after his treatment was not possible in Britain. He was admitted to the King’s College Hospital in the UK where he was diagnosed with bile duct cancer (Kolingeo carcinoma).

Dr Devkota’s mortal remains will be kept at the hospital premises from 8:00 am-1:00 pm on Tuesday for final tributes.

He is survived by his wife and three daughters. He was also the Health Minister during the active regime of then King Gyanendra. RSS
