Newly appointed Defence Minister recognises role of Army in preserving security



Kathmandu, Aug 26: Newly appointed Defence Minister Bal Krishna Khand today acknowledged the ‘dignified’ role of the Nepal Army in the preservation of nationalism and freedom and security of Nepali people.

Giving directions to high level officials of the Ministry, the Army and the subordinate bodies of the ministry, who were present at the minister’s assumption of the office today, Minister Khand said the Army has played a great role in the implementation of the constitution and enforcing the laws.

He also mentioned the role of the Army increasing prestige and dignity in the international arena.

The minister said he would give a priority to expand warm relations between the Army and people and modernise and consolidate the institution. “It is the responsibility of all to help the Army provide security to the people and safeguard country’s security, sovereignty and integrity,” he said.

Born at Malyangkot VDC of Syangja district in 2017 BS, the newly-appointed Minister was elected to the Constituent Assembly from the constituency number 3 of Rupandehi district in the election to the constituent assembly held in 2070 BS.

He has led the youths on behalf the party in the different democratic movements in the country. He is also the former president of the Nepal Students Union and the Nepal Tarun Dal, the student wing and the youth wing respectively of the Nepali Congress.

Khand is the central committee member of the Nepali Congress and was appointed the Irrigation Minister in 2066 BS and the Minister of State for Education in 2061 BS. He holds a Master of Arts degree in political science from Tribhuvan University. RSS
