EC rejects govt’s proposal to postpone election

KATHMANDU, June 15: The Election has refused the government’s proposal to postpone the second round local level election in some districts of Terai.

The ruling parties had consulted with the EC about the possibilities of deferring the polls in some districts after the agitating Rastriya Janata Party Nepal demanded putting off of the polls.

But the EC warning that postponing the polls would invite ‘electoral disaster’, rejected the ruling parties’ proposal. Previously, the EC, in request of the government has already postponed the poll date for four times.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and other party leaders are holding discussion with the office-bearers of the Election Commission (EC) being focused on the second phase of local elections at the Prime Minster’s office, Singha Durbar today.
