Shoulder pain could be a sign of heart disease

KATHMANDU, jan 8: Do you have shoulder pain? Do you feel, or have you been told, that you just strained it lifting, moving, falling, twisting, etc.? Have you done it over and over and know it’s just because you are “too old” to do that?

A recent study from the University of Utah has found otherwise. Kurt Hegmann, M.D., M.P.H., Director of the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health and a Professor of Family and Preventive Medicine from the University of Utah School of Medicine, has shown that the shoulder pain you are experiencing, or have experienced, may be a sign of heart disease.

This is in line with other studies that have shown that people who have an increased risk for heart attacks also have a propensity toward other tendon and muscle disorders, such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow. More research needs to be done, but shoulder pain may be an excellent reason for you to get to your doctor this new year and have a heart health visit to assess and then minimize heart and vascular risk factors.

Don’t just chalk up your shoulder pain to a strain — with the help of your doctor, dig deeper and take care of your whole body!AGENCIES
