Surya Bahadur says anti-government stir will be costlier to ruling parties

SINDHULI: Former Prime Minister and leader of a fringe opposition party Surya Bahadur Thapa today said that the opposition parties were making their anti-government protests stern to topple the ‘undemocratic government’ and the protest would be costlier to the UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-based ruling political parties.

The octogenarian leader said this while speaking at a program in Sindhuli this morning and urged the people to join the anti-government protests alleging the government of continuing its totalitarian face.

Claiming that the present Baburam Bhattarai-led government was planning to give an excuse to all criminals for their wartime crimes, Thapa opined that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission should not be formed to offer blanket amnesty to the criminals.

Thapa who is also the Chairman of Rastriya Janashakti Party said that Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai should quit the post immediately to pave a way for national consensus so that an environment of political trust would be created among the parties. He pointed out the need for an election government and ruled out the possibility of changing the Bhattarai-led government into a national consensus one.
