Assad says, Amnesty report on prison execution is ‘fake’
Feb 11: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad criticized Amnesty International’s recent reports claiming that his army hanged 13,000 prisoners at the secret prison Saydnaya. Al-Assad claimed that the human rights organization published the report with no substantial evidence and that it is based only on interviews with opposition members.
“Amnesty International knows more about Syria than me?” asked al-Assad. “They haven’t been to Syria. They only based their reports on allegations.” Al-Assad added: “We live in a fake news era, as you know, everybody knows that.”
Al-Assad also attacked the US, saying: “The United States is in no position to talk about human rights. Since the Vietnam War and until this moment, they killed millions of civilians. If you don’t want to talk about the 1.5 million in Iraq without any assignment by the Security Council.”
Al-Assad also addressed US President Donald Trump’s executive order that bans Muslims from entering the US, saying that some of the refugees are “definitely” terrorists. “Those terrorists in Syria holding the machine gun or killing people, they are peaceful refugees in Europe.”
He warned that any number of terrorists can execute an attack, “The 11th of September, it happened only by 15 terrorists out of maybe millions of immigrants in the United States. So it’s not about the number, it’s about the quality, it’s about the intentions.” When the Yahoo News host implied that he thus justifies Trump’s ban, which is currently frozen, al-Assad said: “Only as Americans people will say this is against the interests of the United States or with the interests.”AGENCIES
