Teachers and school text books yet to arrive in Jumla
Jumla, March 1: The government and the community schools have started the new academic session in the district but a dearth of teachers and books is severely affecting students’ fervour in the classrooms.
The academic session started on February 8, but only the local teachers are available. The local teachers have opened the school but many teachers are yet to arrive due to which study and teaching has not resumed, said Yadavraj Acharya, a primary school teacher at the Saraswoti Higher Secondary School Kudari, Jumla.
According to Acharya, classes have not started although admission in the schools had remained open until the last week of February. The teacher further lamented the paucity of text books for grade one to five as hampering their teaching effort.
Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Jumla Chapter Chairman, Baram Bahadur Mahat, said an onsite inspection to the schools showed that all of the teachers were yet to arrive in the district. He accused the teachers’ involvement in other works as resulting in the negligence in government education service.
Nar Bahadur Rawat, a local from Kudari – 3, blamed the weakness on part of the District Education Office (DEO) for making students’ future uncertain.
District Education Officer, Kul Bahadur Phadera, admitted he has been receiving complaints that classes were not running in the schools. “We have instructed the principals of all the schools to not only open the schools, but also arrange for regular classes,” he said.
Janak Education Materials Centre claimed that school text books were already sent to the district in mid February and that more books were in course dispatch.
