KATHMANDU, March 14: The United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) boycotted today’s meeting of the Legislature-Parliament.

With Speaker Onsari Gharti announcing the commencement of the meeting, UDMF –associated lawmakers stood up from their respective seats as a gesture of their protest of the session.

The Speaker instantly gave time to Sadbhawana Party’s lawmaker Laxman Lal Karna to put views on behalf of the UDMF.

Karna took the opportunity to accuse the government of being insensitive towards the welfare of the country and people despite its expansion. “The Saptari police firing on Madheshi people shows that government is not sensitive. The UDMF proposal to amend the constitution to seek a solution to problems surfaced in the country has been ignored by the government and major political parties.”

He objected to what he claimed insult of the Madhesi community by the CPN (UML). The UDMF cadres arrested from Bhairahawa were subjected to physical torture.

Accusing the Local Level Restructuring Commission of reducing the Madhesi’s representation at the local level, he said, ” The Madhesi people will not accept the LLRC report and the election until their grievance are addressed by the constitution amendment bill . ”

“The country is presently in a complicated situation and on this backdrop, the Speaker’s role is important. We demand the government and political parties to further hold talks to find a way out to the nation from existing transition,” he asserted.

With Karna concluding his views, UDMF lawmakers walked out of the session. RSS
