KATHMANDU, April 20: CPN-UML Secretary Pradip Gywali has said that his party would always support the Prachanda led government regarding election related matters.

Speaking during an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Thursday, he said, “Our party has does not expect any palce in the government. But, regarding election matters, UML is ever ready to extend help to the current government.”

Stating that election would be held at any cost on May 14, he said, “Election cannot be postponed or stopped in any pretext. If any power tries to disrupt election, UML will strongly take action against it.”

“We have already refused Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s proposal to hold local level election in two stages. Election in two phases is just an excuse to confuse people. Even people have refused to accept election in two phases.”

Gwyali added, “Security bodies have committed to guarantee peaceful and fearless election. The Election Commission is in the final stages of preparation for election. If by any reason, this election fails, the government will be responsible for that.”

He accused the government to have violated the election code of conduct by releasing non-budgetary fund. He added, UML, in leadership of deputy leader of UML’s parliamentary party Subash Nembang had drawn the EC’s attention towards such issue.

Welcoming the five Madhes-centric party unification, Gwyali urged them to take part in the upcoming local level election. “If you (Madhes-centric parties) boycott the election, you will destroy yourselves.”

He argued that UML had prepared a manifesto that would strengthen local government.
