Valley to get 170 million litres of water from Melamchi Project



TARA BAHADUR KATUWAL, KATHMANDU, May 25: The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has said that the Melamchi Project will bring 170 million litres water into the Kathmandu valley.

Increasing demand of drinking water in the Kathmandu valley could be met after the project comes into operation.

The Kathmandu valley is getting only 80 million litres of water every day against the demand of around 260 million litres.

Locals have been meeting their water needs from different sources including rivers, rivulets as well as underground water.

Spokesperson at the Ministry, Shanker Prasad Subedi, said that construction task of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project was underway in order to complete it within next one year.
