Baburam Bhattarai Maoist leader

KATHMANDU: The ongoing central committee meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) has taken a new turn after party vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai announced his resignation from the party’s second seniormost position.

However, Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and some other influential leaders have been continuing their bids to convince Dr Bhattarai and back from his resignation announcement.

The central committee meeting to held today is expected to take a final call on Bhattarai’s resignation.

Meanwhile, some leaders close to Bhattarai including Devendra Poudel, Khimlal Devkota and others have claimed that Bhattarai did not resign from the post but just tried to teach lessons other power hungry leaders that post was not more important in a communist party.
