Political committee asks government to amend constitution
KATHMANDU: The High Level Political Committee (HLPC) has asked the government to initiate process for amending the interim constitution to incorporate understanding reached with Upendra Yadav-led Federal Democratic Front (FDF) and Ashok Rai-led Federal Socialist Party (FSP).
A meeting of the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) on Wednesday took the decision and asked the chairman of Interim Election Council, Khil Raj Regmi to initate the process at the earliest.
In its initiative to bring the dissident parties for CA elections, the HLPC had forged agreement with the Front and the FSP to retain the size of Constituent Assembly to 601-member.
According to Nepali Congress leader Dr. Minendra Rijal, the leaders asked Chairman Regmi to proceed the constitution amendment.
They apprised the executive head of the HLPC’s decision to conduct the slated elections even without the participation of CPN-Maoist as the efforts to convince the dissenting forces for the polls failed.
