Govt ready for every possible support for cricket: Minister Shrestha



Kathmandu: Minister for Youth and Sports Ram Kumar Shrestha has said that a proposal would be made before the Council of Ministers to award a cash prize of Rs. one million each to the members of the national cricket team that qualified for the ICC Twenty20 cricket world cup 2014.
Speaking at a face-to-face programme organised by Reporters Club Nepal in the capital on Thursday, Minister Shrestha said a proposal has been received from the National Sports Council to award cash prize to the cricketers and added that the Ministry will add to that before presenting it to the cabinet.
The historical feat achieved by Nepali cricketers has made us all proud, he said and made it clear that the Government was committed to providing every possible support for the development of cricket sport in the country.
Member-secretary of National Sports Council Yubaraj Lama, President of Cricket Association of Nepal Tanka Angbahang, former Chair of CAN Binaya Raj Pandey lauded the feat achieved by the Nepali national cricket team and stressed on the need to encourage athletes as well as the development of the sport in the country.
Nepal made it to the ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2014 to be held in Bangladesh next year by defeating Hong Kong by 5 wickets in the world cup qualifying match held in Abudhabi, UAE on Wednesday.
