Myagdi, March 28: Ex-Gurkha army personnel Min Bahadur Sherchan,85, of Tatopani in Myagdi is making another attempt to scale the world’s highest mountain Everest.
Sherchan had reached atop the summit of Everest at the age of 78 to record himself in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010. However, 80-year-old Japanese mountaineer Yuchiro Miura broke his record to become the oldest man on the top of Everest.
Sherchan had made an attempt last year but had to cancel it due to the April 25 Gorkha earthquake.
Meanwhile, his fellow residents of Myagdi have begun a campaign to help Sherchan win back the record. The Myagdi Non-Residents Nepalis Association in UK and the Magar Association UK have set up committees to collect funds for Sherchan. We will work inside and outside Nepal to help Sherchan in this noble cause, said the Association’s Treasurer Tej Ramjali Punmagar. RSS
