Bhimdattanagar remains tense over murder of Panta

KANCHANPUR, Aug 22: Bhimdattanagar, the district headquarters of Kanchanpur, remained tense on Wednesday, too, as locals continue to stage a demonstration, demanding the arrest of ‘real’ perpetrator in the rape and murder of a local 13-year-old girl.

Nirmala Panta of Kholti of Bhimdatta municipality-2 was murdered after being raped a few weeks ago. Her body was recovered on July 27 from a sugarcane field.

The police on Monday arrested a person with mental illness on the charge of his involvement in the crime. The locals have accused the police of arresting an innocent person with an intention of protecting ‘real’ criminal. They held demonstrations Monday also.

The locals today gathered in front of the District Administration Office, Kanchanpur, protesting against the police move and clamoring for justice to the victim family by bringing perpetrators to book. The demonstrators and police engaged in a brief clash. Police resorted to the release of two rounds of tear gas shell to disperse the crowd.

According to District Police Office, Kanchanpur’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Gyan Bahadur Sety, two demonstrators have been taken under control. The Bhimdatta folks have been demonstrating since the incident, demanding the arrest of guilty. RSS
