NC senior leader bats for making agriculture respectable profession
Damauli, Jan 3 : Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has insisted on the need of promoting agriculture as a respectable vocation in the country.
He said so while addressing to the fourth annual general meeting of Shyamgha Small Farmers Cooperatives Ltd at Sisaghat, Vyas Municipality-6 today.
Leader Poudel expressed his dismay that agriculture was considered a ‘lowly’ profession in society although a significant population of the country depended on it.
“We call Nepal as an agricultural country, but agriculture is not seen as an esteemed profession. This may be because the return from it is low compared to the hard work farmers put in,” he said, adding that the State should promote agriculture so that it could be seen as a respectable profession.
Senior leader Poudel said the Nepali Congress and the farmers have close relations and it was only the Nepali Congress which worked for the wellbeing of the farmers and for their prosperity.
He observed that political revolution has been complete in the country and now was the time for economic revolution, which was possible through agriculture.
Vyas Municipality mayor Baikuntha Neupane urged the cooperatives to contribute to the prosperity of the municipality. Cooperative chairman Lal Bahadur Pantha chaired the programme. (RSS)
