A former British Gurkha soldier died of COVID-19 on Monday as the number of Nepalis dying in the United Kingdom has reached nine. Six of them are former British Gurkha soldiers.

He is 65-year-old Laxin Bahadur Gurung who lived in Redding outside London city. He passed away at 7 am on Monday while under treatment at a hospital in Redding, said Kamal Gurung, a Nepali social worker in London.

He had been hospitalized for the last two weeks and was kept on a ventilator of late. Laxin died when preparations were being made to remove him from ventilator support after doctors said that he has recovered now.

Originally hailing from Ghandruk, Kaski of Nepal he also had a house in Pokhara. Laxin also served as the President of Ghandruk Society Redding. According to Kamal, Laxin was in good shape and neither was a smoker nor consumed alcohol. RSS
