13 more Nepali die of COVID-19 abroad
Kathmandu, July 5 : Thirteen more Nepalis have died of coronavirus abroad in the past one week. According to Non-Resident Nepali Association’s Health Committee, the tally includes fresh deaths from the United Arab Emirates (6), India (5) and one each from Oman and Kuwait.
As informed by the Committee, till Saturday evening, 143 Nepalis succumbed to the virus in 14 countries including the UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Ireland, Japan, Turkey, the Netherlands, Sweden and Oman.
Committee coordinator Dr Sanjiv Sapkota said in the recent week, the infection in other countries except the middle-east is slowing down. Till Saturday evening, 28,918 Nepalis abroad have been infected while 25,226 recovered.
The NRNA further shared that Nepali residing in several 37 countries have been affected by the virus.
Meanwhile, the rescue of Nepalis left stranded due to coronavirus global crisis has been intensified. The rescue is going on through collaborative efforts of NRNA and diplomatic missions based in foreign countries. In the past one month, 18,293 Nepalis were brought to homes from 21 countries.
They have returned homes from Afghanistan, Australia, Oman, Qatar, Myanmar, Kuwait, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Bangladesh, Malaysia, the Maldives, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Bahrain, the US and the UK, NRNA COVID-19 high level committee press coordinator Chiran Sharma.
