House committee for studying feasibility of Rasuwa-Kerung railway
Ksthmandu, Jan 05. The Development Committee of the Legislature-Parliament directed the bodies concerned to immediately conduct detailed study on the feasibility of the Rasuwa-Kerung railway line connecting the country with the Chinese railway network, and to proceed ahead with the works to that regard.
At a meeting of the committee held in Singha Durbar today, discussions were held on the possibility of the development of railway transport in the country and its contribution to the overall economic development and the development of infrastructure of the country as well as the country´s geographical location and the importance of railway transport.
The committee directed the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Railways to allocate adequate budget for developing projects for construction and expansion of rapid transit railway line and upgrading and extending the existing railway transport and implement the same.
After the meeting, committee president Rabindra Adhikari said the meeting decided to direct the bodies concerned to develop the required strategy as well as policy and legal framework for the development and expansion of railway transport for rapid economic progress.
The committee issued directives to the bodies concerned to promote the inter-country railway transport connectivity as Nepal is party to the Convention on Expansion of Inter-continental Asian Railway Network and to promptly prepare and implement detailed project feasibility report for expanding the network of the express railway network in the country.
Similarly, the meeting directed the related bodies to expedite the construction of the proposed Mechi-Mahakali Railway Project, complete the construction works within the stipulated time and to submit to the committee the progress report of this project every three months. RSS
