KATHMANDU, March 19: Suspended Kanchanpur Police Chief SP Dilli Raj Bista has presented himself before the Kanchanpur District Court on Monday.

A case was registered against eight police officials including Bista at the district court on March 8 for meting out torture and destroying evidences associated to the rape and subsequent murder of the 13-year old school girl Nirmala Panta of Bhimdutta municipality-2 of Kanchanpur, who was found dead near a sugarcane field on the morning of July 27, 2018. Bista was suspended by Nepal Police for misleading the case on August 25, 2018.

The district court had issued a warrant against Bista and DSP Angur GC a week ago after only six of them (excluding Bista and GC) presented themselves before the court.

Bista, GC and six other officials were implicated after Panta’s mother Durga Devi Panta filed a FIR against them at the district police office on December 18, 2018. Bista and GC had since been absconding.

According to Registrar Hari Krishna Awasti, DSP GC is yet to report before the court.
