Lawmakers urge govt to end political turmoil
Kathmandu, Jan 5: Lawmakers at Legislature-Parliament meeting today urged the government to end existing political crisis set off by Indian unofficial blockade and ongoing Tarai protest.
Delivering his view at the meeting, Nepali Congress lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada lauded the declaration of former Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat ‘finance minister of the year’ for his efforts to bring in many donations from the international community for the reconstruction projects damaged by the April 25 earthquake.
He added that it was necessary for House to pass thank-giving proposal for the honour of Mahat by international community that has increased dignity of Nepal and Nepalese alike at a time when there is risk of polarisation among various communities in Nepal lately.
Likewise, another NC lawmaker Kamal Pangeni said that people are suffering through black marketeering, following the blockade and the protest, demanding that the government should provide substantial reasons for a failure to provide warm clothes and money to the quake victims.
CPN (UML) lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari urged the government to expedite the construction works of North-South Highway as the construction works were in limbo. He stressed on operating northern border points soon.
Similarly, UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Chham Bahadur Gurung blamed the NGOs and INGOs as they were not supporting the government for resettlement and reconstruction projects in quake-hit 14 districts.
Nepal Workers and Peasants Party lawmaker Anuradha Thapa expressed dissent over the irresponsible statement about the Nepal’s internal affairs by Indian Member of Parliament.
Likewise, Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal lawmaker Mina Pun urged the government to be responsible to end the crisis caused by unofficial border blockade and earthquake.
CPN (Unified) lawmaker Jaydev Joshi opined for resolving the problems surfaced in Tarai.
