Maghi’s fervor begins

Dhangadhi, Jan 14: The Maghi festival which is mostly celebrated by indigenous Tharu communities to mark their New Year is being observed in different parts of the country with fanfare.

The fervor of Maghi was already visible in Tharu-Chaudhary communities in the country before three days of the festival, said local Tharu leaders.
The community people at the moment come together and discuss the nomination of their local leaders. The position is chosen on consensus if possible and otherwise through election.
Tharus celebrate the festival for five days with special get-togethers where they serve eateries and delicacies to each other in a cordial fashion.
